Scientific Basis of the RIA Principle

The regenerative, immune, and antioxidant processes of the body can be supported by carefully selected herbs, mushrooms, and micronutrients, as evidenced by a growing body of scientific research. These natural compounds have been widely studied for their role in maintaining normal physiological functions and supporting the body’s adaptive capacity. Based on this understanding, the RIA dietary supplement was developed in alignment with the RIA principle, providing an integrative approach to support these interconnected systems in a balanced and complementary way.

Awakening the Body’s Inner Power Through Stem Cells

Within the health-preserving philosophy of the RIA system, Regeneration is not merely about external repair, but about supporting the activation of the body’s most powerful internal “rescue team”: endogenous stem cells.

Stem cell mobilization may contribute to enhanced tissue regeneration and support the body’s overall regenerative capacity.

Aging, disease, and chronic stress can significantly impair the mobilization capacity of bone marrow-derived stem cells. The RIA system was developed to help counteract processes that limit regeneration through the synergistic combination of three “superfoods” studied in humans.

1. Sea Buckthorn Berry – The Key to Stem Cell Mobilization

Sea buckthorn acts as a powerful “Stem Cell Mobilizer,” largely due to its bioactive compound delphinidin-3-glucoside:

  • Rapid mobilization: As early as 2 hours after consumption, it may enhance the mobilization of bone marrow-derived stem cells into the bloodstream.
  • 33% more endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs): These cells play an important role in the regeneration of the inner lining of blood vessels and in maintaining vascular integrity.
  • 21% more mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs): MSCs are considered key players in the natural regenerative processes of bones, cartilage, and various connective tissues.
  • 24% more pluripotent stem cells (CD34+): These cells represent a strategic regenerative reserve, capable of differentiating into various functional cell types according to the body’s needs.

2. AFA Algae (Aphanizomenon flos-aquae) – Mobilizing Millions of Stem Cells

AFA algae bioactive constituents can act as an L-selectin modulator, thereby supporting the mobilization of stem cells into circulation:

  • 3 million extra stem cells: As early as 1 hour after consumption, circulating CD34+ stem cell levels may increase by an average of 25%, potentially corresponding to up to 3 million additional mobilized stem cells.
  • Sustained regenerative support: These mobilized stem cells may remain present in the circulation for hours, helping them reach tissues requiring regeneration and repair.

3. Reishi Mushroom (Ganoderma lucidum) – Protecting the Regenerative Environment

Reishi, also known as Lingzhi or Ganoderma lucidum, contains powerful bioactive polysaccharides (GLPs) which, according to research, may contribute to the protection of stem cells and support their guidance toward tissues requiring regeneration.

  • Support for regeneration: Bioactive compounds found in Reishi may support the specialization of stem cells, including their natural differentiation into bone and connective tissue-related cell types.
  • Morphological protection: Reishi may contribute to maintaining the morphological stability of stem cells under conditions of oxidative stress and environmental burden.
  • Optimization of the “Stem Cell Niche”: By helping reduce systemic inflammation, Reishi may support a more favorable bone marrow microenvironment for the natural adhesion and function of stem cells.

+1. Milk-thistle seed – Liver Regeneration Support

Silymarin from milk thistle seed has been shown in clinical studies to support liver health by reducing oxidative stress and inflammation, and by limiting fibrotic mechanisms, contributing to the body’s natural liver cell recovery and regeneration processes.

Comprehensive Defense System Against External and Internal Threats

Immunity acts as the body’s natural protective shield, supporting the optimized and balanced function of the body’s self-defense responses. Within this complex defense system, three well-known immunomodulatory components may play a particularly important role: Reishi mushroom, vitamin C, and vitamin D.

1. Vitamin C – The Activator of Immune Cells

  • Physical barrier: contributes to maintaining the integrity of the epithelial layer and the skin against pathogens.
  • Power of phagocytosis: may support the natural bacteria-killing capacity of neutrophil white blood cells.
  • Adaptive immune response: Promotes the normal differentiation and function of B and T cells.

Vitamin C is one of the best-known nutrients supporting immune health. It contributes to the activity of white blood cells involved in defending the body against pathogens, supports the body’s natural defense mechanisms, and acts as a powerful antioxidant. Through these complementary functions, vitamin C helps maintain the effectiveness of both the innate and adaptive immune responses.

Beyond its well-established role in immunity, vitamin C also supports the integrity of the skin and epithelial barriers, which serve as the body’s first line of defense against external threats. Recent research has revealed an additional fascinating dimension of vitamin C biology: it acts as a cofactor for enzymes involved in epigenetic regulation, helping to influence gene expression and normal cellular function.

Moreover, when vitamin C is delivered as part of acerola fruit extract, it is naturally embedded in a complex matrix of bioactive compounds—such as flavonoids, carotenoids, and polyphenols—working together to support its stability, absorption, and overall antioxidant synergy.

2. Vitamin D – The Activating Regulator of Immune Response

Vitamin D plays a central role in immune regulation by supporting both innate and adaptive immune responses. It acts in a hormone-like manner through nuclear receptors on immune cells, helping to enhance the body’s defense against pathogens while maintaining immune balance. Through this immunomodulatory effect, vitamin D contributes to reducing the risk of dysregulated immune responses, including autoimmune conditions, by counteracting excessive immune activation.

  • Innate immunity: May contribute to the activation of macrophages for the recognition of “invading” pathogens.
  • Antibacterial activity: Supports the production of natural antimicrobial peptides (cathelicidin and beta-defensin), which play an important role in protecting the respiratory tract and intestinal system.
  • Adaptive regulation: May help maintain the balanced function of the immune system, reducing the risk of autoimmune processes and excessive inflammatory responses such as “cytokine storms.”

3. Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharides, particularly beta-glucans, are known to support the immune system by helping maintain its responsiveness and balance, enabling the body to react more effectively to everyday external stressors. As natural immunomodulators, they contribute to the regulation of immune activity rather than overstimulation, supporting long-term resilience and overall physiological stability.

The immune-supportive effects of Reishi are linked to several complementary mechanisms:

  • Activation of protective cells: May contribute to the proper activity of natural killer (NK) cells and macrophages, two important components of the body’s first line of defense.
  • Immune fine-tuning: May help support the balanced production of cytokines involved in immune communication, promoting a controlled and well-coordinated immune response.
  • Prebiotic support: Its bioactive polysaccharides may help support a healthy gut microbiome, which is closely linked to immune function and metabolic health.

“Free radical neutralization and cellular detoxification”

The Antioxidant (A) strategy supports the neutralization of free radicals and helps create a cleaner cellular environment, providing favorable conditions for the Regenerative (R) and Immune (I) processes to function effectively.

Vitamin C is one of the most, if not the most important water-soluble antioxidants in the human body, playing a central role in neutralizing free radicals and helping to maintain cellular integrity under oxidative stress. It also contributes to the regeneration of other antioxidants and supports the body’s natural defense network.

Quercetin is known for its versatile functions. It contributes to the body’s antioxidant defense by directly neutralizing free radicals and reducing oxidative stress at the cellular level, while also supporting endogenous antioxidant systems involved in maintaining redox balance.

  • Endogenous defense: May support the activity of the body’s own antioxidant enzymes, including SOD and catalase.
  • Detoxification: May help reduce the harmful effects of environmental stressors such as heavy metals, pesticides, and mycotoxins.

Grape Seed Extract is a potent source of proanthocyanidins called OPC. Scientific studies have shown that the antioxidant capacity of OPC may be up to 20 times greater than that of vitamin E and up to 50 times greater than that of vitamin C.

  • Multi-level antioxidant support: Helps neutralize reactive oxygen and nitrogen species, contributing to the reduction of oxidative stress.
  • Circulatory support: Helps protect lipids from oxidation and supports the protection of cellular DNA, thereby contributing to a favorable environment for stem cells.

Milk thistle seed is one of the most extensively studied botanical ingredients for liver health. Its active complex, silymarin, is a rich source of standardized antioxidant compounds that work synergistically to help protect cells and support long-term physiological balance. Through multiple complementary mechanisms, silymarin contributes to maintaining the liver’s natural protective and regenerative functions.

  • Nrf2 activation: May support the activation of cellular detoxification pathways in liver cells, helping the body respond to oxidative and metabolic stress.
  • Mitochondrial protection: Helps protect the mitochondria—the cell’s “power plants”—supporting the energy production required for normal cellular repair and regeneration.
  • Inflammatory balance: May help modulate NF-κB signaling pathways, contributing to a balanced inflammatory response and supporting the liver’s natural cleansing functions.

Regeneration – Immune System – Antioxidant Protection

These three pillars are closely interconnected and together contribute to maintaining the body’s balance, preserving health, and supporting long-term physiological function. The body relies on all three to function optimally.

Regeneration (R) – The body’s renewal processes

Regeneration is the body’s natural ability to replace damaged or aging cells with new, healthy ones. Stem cells play a key role in this process, participating in tissue repair and renewal.

Selected active ingredients may help support stem cell activity, contributing to:

  • the body’s natural regenerative processes,
  • adaptation to physical and mental stress,
  • optimized recovery following various forms of illnesses.

Immune System (I) – The body’s protective balance

The immune system is responsible for defending the body against external pathogens, as well as identifying and managing abnormal internal cells. Modern lifestyle factors – including stress, environmental exposure, and daily habits – can influence immune function.

Balanced support of the immune system may contribute to:

  • the maintenance of normal immune function,
  • strengthening the body’s defense mechanisms,
  • reduced risk of autoimmune processes,
  • regulation of inflammatory processes.

Antioxidant System (A) – Supporting cellular protection

The body is continuously exposed to factors that lead to the formation of free radicals. These molecules can cause oxidative stress, which over time may contribute to cellular damage.

Antioxidants help neutralize these harmful molecules, thereby supporting:

  • the protection of cells,
  • the maintenance of normal physiological processes,
  • the body’s long-term balance.

The RIA principle reflects a comprehensive approach to supporting the body’s fundamental systems. By addressing regeneration, immune balance, and antioxidant protection together, it provides a framework that aligns with the body’s natural processes rather than acting on isolated functions.

Maintaining harmony between these systems is essential for long-term well-being. When supported in a balanced way, the body is better equipped to adapt, protect, and sustain its optimal function over time.

This integrated perspective forms the foundation of Riavita’s philosophy: supporting health at its core, through a consistent and science-informed approach.
